Recruitment starts again in the autumn!

The first eight Filipino nurses arrived in Finland in April. They have started their work within elderly care and are doing well. The next group is scheduled to arrive in Finland in the Autumn. During the Summer months we will strengthen our recruitment network and our Finnish language training process in the Philippines in order to be able to maintain a steady recruitment flow of nurses who have the basic Finnish skills from the Philippines to Finland. Until our office starts operating officially and fully in the Autumn, you are welcome to send in your application and CV directly to us at Opteam to

WORK IN FINLAND WITHOUT PLACEMENT FEE
Opteam does NOT charge any placement fees. It is absolutely against our company policy and corporate social responsibility. Do not ever pay any payments for getting a job in Finland. If someone asks you to pay a placement fee, please, let us know immediately placementfee@opteam.fi.

Opteam Way of Operating

For Opteam, it is important to operate ethically and with social responsibility. Opteam is a member of FiBS: www.fibsry.fi. (Finnish Business & Society ry, a network for responsible business). One of the ethical recruitment principles is that Opteam does not collect a placement fee from the applicants. This applies also to Opteam's partners: collecting placement fee is prohibited in any partnership contracts.

Through Opteam concept the customers will find what they need: the best suited, skilled professionals with experience to match the defined criteria for each job. Since the employees who come to Finland and to work with Opteam's customer companies just don't come to visit Finland but to stay for a longer period of time - at least one year - quality of the recruitment process is emphasized already in the country of departure.

Why the Philippines

Opteam has explored the potential countries from which work force could be recruited or from which people are already moving to Europe in order to work . A lot of background research was done and the Philippines met the Opteam criteria well.

Filipinos have a long tradition of working abroad. Over 8 million Filipinos work abroad presently. A fairly large number of the Philipinos in Europe are nurses. 10 % of the gross national product in the Philippines consists of the money overseas Filipinos send back; it is the biggest source of foreign currency. Filipinos also have ver good English language skills which often is the strongest second language for many Finns, too.

The following information on the health care system and nursing education is based on discussions with private and public Filipinos, authorities, educational representatives, and public information on the Philippines as a producer of labour force. Also, the report of Dr. Jaime Galvez-Tan has given important information as well as meetings with Dr. George Obusan, representatives of Central Philippine University and the Mayor of Iloilo, Mr. Jerry P. Treñas, amongst others.
  • There are about 500 nursing schools of varied standard in the Philippines at the moment. There is a list of best performing schools, one of them is located in Iloilo.
  • There are both private and public nursing schools.
  • Education is not free. The term fees vary and in most cases, education is a huge effort the immediate and extended family.
  • Even engineers and lawyers re-educate themselves to become nurses in the hope of employment abroad.
  • Nurses are educated for export; it is estimated that the USA will need 10.000 nurses/year (another estimate is 50.000 nurses/year), the European countries will need another 10.000 nurses.
  • Reasons for nurses to go abroad for work: scarce career opportunities, low salary, concern about the family's livelyhood.
  • Many nurses work voluntary at public hospitals without any pay waiting that at some point they will get an employment with salary.
  • Often, people can't afford health care services which leads to that they seldom go to the hospital or the doctor.
